ELCID Test – Advanced Stator Core Inspection

One of the key diagnostic techniques is the ELCID Test (Electromagnetic Core Imperfection Detection Test). This method is used to evaluate the condition of a generator’s stator core, particularly identifying interlamination faults in the insulation between core laminations. Such faults can cause eddy currents and lead to hot spots, which, if left untreated, may result in severe generator damage. The ELCID Test is internationally recognized and operates by applying a low-frequency excitation signal through the core. Measurements are taken using a Chattock Coil, which scans each stator slot to detect any abnormalities. The results precisely indicate potential fault locations, guiding necessary repairs or maintenance actions.
